Anne Meckstoth Menter worked outside of the home while raising her two children. However, she focused much of her adult life on being a mom. So, when her children left for college, she found herself drifting in the change, and began writing poetry to help her through this difficult emotional time. Because she believed that other mothers experience what she was going through, she decided to publish this book with the hope that it might help make the transition easier for some moms.

I grew up in Staunton, Virginia, a beautiful small town in the Shenandoah Valley. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University and my Masters from Yale University. Because my parents had moved from Virginia to New York City immediately after I graduated from high school, I spent my college vacations learning to appreciate the wonders of big city life.

My first professional experience was teaching high school Spanish near Boston, MA. I enjoyed the students and the teaching but not the public school bureaucracy, and in a few years had headed west to Arizona State University for my MBA. Two years after graduation I married Jerry, whom I had met while at ASU, and moved to his hometown of Manlius, NY. I worked 7 years in corporate planning/marketing for a manufacturing company before joining the family business – which provided the flexibility I wanted while raising the kids.

Without a doubt, my two children, Adam and Lora, have been my most fun and enjoyable experience in life – and they are my proudest achievement. Now they’ve grown up, and I’m ready for my next on-the-road-of-life adventures. As my newly found creative talents blossom, I want to make some helpful social contributions along the way.

In addition to writing, there are many things I like to do. I am a member of Sweet Memories, a group of women volunteers who sing songs of the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s to residents of nursing homes. My husband and I enjoy nature hikes in the beautiful outdoors of Central New York where we live. I am a huge college basketball fan, possibly because I was born an Indiana Hoosier and basketball is in the blood. Inspired by my daughter’s passion for food, I have fun with new dining/cooking experiences. I like being with people and traveling, especially in the USA, and have been known to jump in the car and take off on an adventure. Preserving family history and memorabilia is important to me, and that includes adding our current generation memories.
